What We Need To See at ICFF

May 20th, 2013

The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is back in full swing— and we couldn’t be more excited! As North America’s premier showcase for contemporary design, ICFF brings together the latest design trends and innovations in one jam-packed trade show and exhibition. With the show opening to the public on Tuesday, here’s what we can’t wait to see at ICFF.

Watermark Designs and Flavor Paper

We love Watermark Designs for their hip Brooklyn aesthetic and innovative faucet designs— and for their first ICFF, they’re putting both proudly on display. Their new Zen Collection is comprised of quartz faucet handles and rocks hand-picked from the shores of Lake Michigan. Utilizing rare earth magnets, this new collection eliminates the need for set screws, which gives the handles an even more natural look and feel.

While this new collection is thrilling enough, we’re just as excited to tour their booth, which will be “flavored” with wallpaper from the equally innovative Brooklyn-based company Flavor Paper. Flavor Paper’s hand-screened wallpaper is produced in their “Flavor Lab” in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn. The booth makes use of two Brooklyn-themed designs: the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO wall. We can’t wait to check out this hip collaboration in person!

Sand between one’s toes, lazy, languid evenings imbued with warm breezes. Is there anything better? This is the time of year when a longing for all things summer becomes an obsession. Homeowners read garden and home design magazines anticipating the warm weather soon to come. In design, white is synonymous with summer— clean and bright, it’s a color that says “ahh.” Here are some ways homeowners can bring warmth and brightness into their homes right now, well before summer begins.

Green With Envy!

March 15th, 2013

With Pantone’s declaration of Emerald Green as the color of 2013, one can’t help but feel invigorated by the year ahead. Verdant, full of vitality, vivid and vivacious, Emerald Green has already made a definitive impact on the red carpet and runway. From that “gown” in the film Atonement to Angelina Jolie’s oversized emerald earrings at the Oscars, the color has proven to be every bit alluring and versatile. We’d like to think that these emerald-themed products for the home will not only provide timeless grandeur to interiors, but in the process, might even make others “green” with envy.

Hudson Falls by Hudson Valley Lighting

Drawing cues from classically-inspired turn of the century lighting is Hudson Falls from Hudson Valley Lighting. This canopy-style pendant is defined by its deceptively familiar design, the ceiling fitting and top base are characterized with fine detailing. Hudson Falls is offered as a one- or three-light sconce, canopy and hanging pendant lamp and is available in a variety of finishes: black/polished nickel, distressed bronze, aged brass with green and polished nickel.

Valentine’s Day: Saying ‘Ahhh Love You’

February 13th, 2013

Indulging one’s paramour on Valentine’s Day can take many forms; plying him or her with chocolate, wrapping a loved one in cashmere, blinding them with bling of some sort, providing a day away from the children a la a spa day. A spa day does sound nice – and if your readers want to know how to pamper their loved ones year-round (earning many more brownie points), perhaps they should focus on bath items that make it easy to say, “ahhh love you.”

Heart Throb – Corbett Lighting
With its twisted and delicate heart-shaped frame, there is no question where Corbett Lighting draws inspiration for its lovely Heart Throb. Dressed for the occasion, the two-light sconce is crafted in solid brass and features a polished nickel finish that could take a space from zero to 60 beats per minute. Perfect for a board room or dare we say, the bedroom, Heart Throb is topped with hardback linen shades and exudes romance at every glance.

Great Gatsby Style

January 23rd, 2013

Even though Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby isn’t hitting theatres until June, we can’t keep our love for the Roaring Twenties quiet. Nearly a century later, the 1920s produced timeless, modernist pieces that are still very much en vogue today. Sculptural forms with strong ties to architecture and design, faceted polished chrome and stainless steel, elegant black and white and refined crystal detailing… we think these designs are the cat’s pajamas! Let’s take a look at some of these great designs inspired by The Great Gatsby himself.

Fontaine by GRAFF

GRAFF’s Fontaine faucet is ready for its close-up. Exuding a high level of Hollywood glamour with strong shapes and an Arc Deco feel, its curves and angles mesh perfectly to create an ambiance of pure luxury and visual delight. A modern masterpiece of geometric design, the distinctive Fontaine faucet looks great from any angle.

Go Goth!

October 15th, 2012

Black out? Never. The darkest color in the rainbow is also the most tragically misunderstood. Black isn’t all doom and gloom, it’s a color worthy of worship even outside the funeral parlor. White is passé after Labor Day, but black is classic and refined year round. Feeling a little spooky? Take the passenger seat in our hearse and ride along as we dig up these black beauties…

Bijoux – Corbett Lighting

Bijoux is the French word for “jewelry” and while the traditional Goth may shun sparkles in favor of studded bracelets and lace chokers, this is a piece worthy of anyone’s collection. Wrought from hand-crafted iron, Corbett Lighting’s design blends Classic Golden Silver with delicious Antique Black. And just like your trusty night light, the shining crystal accents brighten up even the darkest corners.

Queen of Love Armchair by Moro-Pigatti

Even people of a ghostly pallor need to get a little sunshine once in a while. This whimsical throne by Italian designers Graziano Moro and Renato Pigatti can be placed outdoors or indoors, depending on your ghastly tan lines. And because this armchair is made from recyclable linear polyethylene, it’s an eco-friendly addition to your haunted house. The Queen of Love is available in 13 unlucky colors but we prefer to lie back in black.
