Art Deco Still Inspires

March 24th, 2014

Following a premiere at the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris, Art Deco became a flourishing global decorative style epitomizing luxury and glamor. Characterized by lavish ornamentation and bold geometric shapes, Art Deco reflected the decade of prosperity following WWI as rapid industrialization transformed the cultural landscape. Combining Machine Age imagery with traditional craft motifs, this eclectic style was soon reflected in all areas of design, including architecture, fashion, interiors, art, graphics, jewelry and even everyday household items.  Here are some of our favorite designs that encapsulate Art Deco’s modern luxury.

Hudson Valley Lighting – Albion LED

Zen and the Art of Great Design

January 9th, 2014

Zen, by formal definition, refers to a school of Mahayana Buddhism that asserts enlightenment can be attained through meditation, self-contemplation and intuition. The teachings date back to the 6th century AD and continue to have a significant following today. In our modern vernacular, the term is often used more broadly to describe furniture, décor and even a state of mind that exhibit a level of simplicity, balance and tranquility. Here are some of our favorite zen-inspired products bringing a little more mindfulness into the home.

Yukimi Lantern by Stone Forest

Japanese stone lanterns were first used in ancient Shinto shrines where they served as votive lights. In the sixteenth century, Japanese tea masters included the stone lantern in Buddhist tea gardens as a means to light the way. The Yukimi Lantern by Stone Forest is also known as a “snow-viewing lantern,” so named for the tendency of the broad roof to hold snow, merging the lantern with its surroundings. Carved from blue-gray granite, this lantern is available in 12″ or 18″ diameter roof.

Natural Design

April 25th, 2013

As Earth Month comes to an end, it’s natural to reflect on all things… well, natural. Whether animal, vegetable, or mineral, the greatest design inspiration comes from Mother Nature herself. That’s why we at Styleture strive to bring nature’s beauty indoors whenever we can. We’ve found some of our favorite companies that are not only making natural products but are contributing to a sustainable future as well.

Taking its lead from nature’s blueprint, Stone Forest sculpts designs from natural materials like stone, copper, bronze, bamboo, iron and hardwood. Their hardwood and bamboo lines are fully sustainable, and their copper and bronze products are crafted from 100% recycled materials. Some of our favorite stand outs include their luxurious Bronze Lunette, their stylish SYNC Drop-in Bamboo Vessel Sink and their Wood L-Slab Pedestal.
