A Contemporary Kitchen in Bakersfield, California
This completely circular kitchen was designed for a family that was building their dream house. After moving in, they commissioned Troy Adams of Troy Adams Design to remodel the entire kitchen. At first, the kitchen was a standard u-shape with an island. However, Adams redesigned the kitchen around the architecture of the home. He redesigned the ceiling in both the kitchen and adjacent living area, and implemented drop ceilings and built-in cove lighting; he also built alcoves to house pendant lighting. The new round kitchen also needed a round island. Adams positioned the round island on stainless steel legs to make it appear as if it were floating. He chose a red pyrolave countertop. To accommodate cooking for two, the kitchen features two top-of-the-line cooktops, refrigerators, ovens and vent hoods. He opted for Rift Oak cabinetry, which conceals the majority of the appliances and brings warmth to the kitchen’s color palette. Adams also employed a built-in appliance garage, 3-Form material on the back of the island featuring red bamboo, as well as ceramic tile flooring with a textured effect and marble border.
“This family would cook every meal from scratch if they could,” said Adams. “Therefore, my goal was to create an inviting gourmet kitchen that would cultivate their passion for cooking and spending time together.”
